TRIO Students attend Hall of Flags Legislative Day on March 3, 2004.

MEEOA sponsored it's 2nd Annual Hall of Flags Day at the State House on Wednesday March 3, 2004.  TRIO Students from around the state attended the event.  During the morning, students had an opportunity to talk with legislators in the Hall about their respective TRIO programs and their impact on students in the state.  Several students also acted as pages in the House chamber during the morning session.  The Governor paid a visit, as well, circulating and meeting students and speaking to the group about the importance of going to college.  He encouraged the students to keep aiming high, as they are the states best resource in a knowledge based economy.  In the afternoon, students and staff spoke to members of the Education Committee during their afternoon committee meeting.  Students from Upward Bound at UMF and USM, as well as the Onward Program at U Maine spoke to the committe on the impact of their TRIO program on their educational goals and success in higher education.  The very successful day was sponsored in part by a grant from the New England Educational Opportunity Association (http://www.neoaonline.org).
